Meet Wael
Wael is a successful beekeeper from Al-Baha, a city in the southwestern part of Saudi Arabia. Before becoming a professional beekeeper, he had struggled to figure out what he wanted to do in life.
This all changed when a friend introduced him to a near-by beehive and its insect inhabitants. Fascinated by the bees and the honey and other products they produced, Wael became eager to learn more about the art of beekeeping.
He discovered and joined Aramco’s beekeeping initiative at the Association of Beekeepers Cooperative in Al-Baha, and through the training and support he received there, Wael was able to build his first beehive and launch his own honey business—finally finding his passion and turning this into a fulfilling and successful living for himself and his family.
Aramco’s support for beekeeping
Aramco has supported initiatives to seed and grow several local micro industries, including beekeeping, across Saudi Arabia. We collaborated with the Association of Beekeepers Cooperative to offer training and support to local beekeepers, and provide them with the tools and equipment they need to prosper.
Our initiative has introduced modern beekeeping methods and training, supporting some 1,800 beekeepers across the Baha, Asir, Taif and Madinah regions since 2016. We have also invested in nurseries to nurture local plants and trees favored by bees, such as Rosemary and the Jujube (known as Sidr) tree, planting 70,000 seedlings.
